The water temperatures are moving up throughout the area and the fishing is showing substantial improvement. The boats are averaging a billfish per day and more and more dorado are starting to show up at the buoys. Look to see the black and blue marlin show up in the catches very soon. The report for nine offshore fishing days reflected 2 striped marlin and 7 sailfish, (2 released) and 7 dorado. The inshore fishing for the five super panga fishing days reflected 2 sailfish and 15 dorado for their efforts and some of the dorado were in the 20-25 lb. ranges.
Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy days with temps that ranged from 73 nights to 92 daytime highs and SW surface breezes at 5-15 mph.
Sea Conditions: Inshore temps at 83 and rising to 85-86 in the offshore waters from about 5 miles. Calm mornings to mid-day wind chop were pretty much the rule this past week but small swell conditions.
Best Fishing Area: All of the billfish were out to the south and southwest of the Marina El Cid and ranged from 14-20 miles or so.
Best Bait/Lure: The rigged trolling baits were best for the billfish and for the dorado in the offshore waters.
Bait Supply: Good supply of both, fresh baits for rigging and live bait, still at the $1.00 per live bait cost.
