Not many boats fished this past week from Puerto Morelos but for those that did the average catches were 11.6 fish per boat day and that's reflective of good catching for the area. The report showed 12 days fished that resulted in an 11 fish mixed bag catch that included 7 giant barracuda, 42 bonito, (fish of the week) 2 amberjack, 2 blackfin tuna, 5 Spanish mackerel, 6 grumpy fish, 34 banana fish, 9 trigger fish, 10 strawberry fish and 6 soap fish.
PM Climate: Cooler evenings and partly cloudy days with temps that ranged from 69 nights to 90 daytime highs and scattered thunder showers throughout the area.
Sea Conditions: Excellent water temps that are holding stable at 85 degrees for the entire area. Light & variable surface breezes, generally from the easterly directions at 5-10 mph and a very small easterly swell. Overall, the area is near fishing perfect.
Best Bait: Ballyhoo continue to be the bait of choice for this area and continues to be readily available and unaffected by the full moon conditions of the past week.
Best Fishing Area: Almost all of the fishing in this area begins just a few minutes outside the entrance to the Marina El Cid, due to the rapid drop-off that curves right into the Puerto Morelos coastline. The steep drop-off tends to attract the bait and the bigger fish close by to the Marina and makes for a very short distance to lines in the water.
