The billfish bite fell off dramatically with the full moon phase this past week and virtually shut off the bite that was beginning to look pretty good for the fleets. High billfish boat for the week was the "Fish Cabo", reflecting 3 sailfish for 4 days fished and followed by the "Gaviota VIII", landing the only striper for the week. The overall combined fish counts for the week reflected 22 offshore fishing days that resulted in 1 striper, 3 sailfish, (released) 2 wahoo, 69 skipjack tuna and 80 dorado. The projection is for the billfish to get right back into action as the moon grows darker and darker through the next phase.

Cabo Climate: It's been a mostly cloudy week with scattered rain showers on Thursday thru Saturday but mostly in the mountains. Air temps at 78 nights to 90 daytime highs and humidity levels at 84%.

Sea Conditions: Pacific side has been holding fairly stable at 87 degrees from the Finger Bank down to the Jaime Bank. Cabo Falso, around to Chileno, has a cool water pocket that juts offshore for a mile or two that drops to 82-83 degrees and then rising to 87-88 from there and on into the Sea of Cortez. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the southerly directions from calm to 9 mph. Overall, very good fishing conditions in all directions with exception to the full moon phase.

Best Fishing Area: The area just south of Cabo Falso Point and at the edge of the water temperature change.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait was best for the few billfish landed. Artificials best for locating the dorado and then dropping a bait back as the fish is brought closer to the boat.

Live Bait Supply: Still, a very good supply of live caballitos at the prevailing $3.00 per bait rate.
