A wild week in Cabo San Lucas that was stirred by the offshore presence of Hurricane Marie, a category 5 hurricane, that unquestionably had the citizenry on edge until Marie passed by well offshore and kept on chugging up and out to the northwest. I can share with you, a lot of prayers were answered when this humongous monster of a hurricane remained offshore and finally left the area with nothing more than rain and big swells and more rain and more big swells. The Port of Cabo was closed for 4 days this past week and the numbers of charters were low even for the month of August. The fishing took a bit of a slump but given a change of weather, it will rebound with a vengeance. The Gaviota I and the Tuna Time were high billfish boats for the week with the Gaviota I landing 2 stripers and the Tuna Time landing 1 blue marlin and 1 sailfish. The Fish Cabo landed the biggest fish of the week, an approximate 350 blue marlin, probably looking forward to the up-coming Bisbee Tournament? The overall catches for a combined total of 13 days fished reflected 2 blue marlin, (released) 1 sailfish, (released) 2 stripers, (released), 2 wahoo, 4 yellowfin tuna and 45 dorado. Looking forward to the Los Cabo Tuna Jackpot Tournament, there was a 300+ lb. tuna taken this past week in the area of the Gorda Banks, but as of this writing, we were unable to confirm the information other than it was a private yacht and a "blind" jig strike.

Cabo Climate: Lots of rain for the early part of the week and then much better for Thursday thru Saturday. Back to rainy and wet days from Sunday thru Friday, (Aug. 31 thru Sept. 5) all predicted at an 80% chance off more rain. Temps ranged from 79 nights to 95 daytime highs and an 89% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Big swell from Hurricane Marie as she passes Cabo far offshore to the West. Four Port closures were necessary for the safety of the passengers and vessels. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the southerly directions from calm to 9 mph. Pacific side of Cabo and stretching down the coast and around the tip to San Jose and the Gorda Banks, all at the 85-86 degree temp ranges. About 7-8 miles above the Gorda Banks the temps increased to 88-89 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: The two blue marlin came from the Migrino area on the Pacific side and the two stripers came from the area outside Cabo Falso.

Best Lure/Bait: Both of the blue marlin taken on larger artificials. The stripers and sailfish taken on live baits. Dorado taken on both, smaller artificials and live bait.

Live Bait Supply: Remains plentiful at the $3.00 per bait rate.
