I talked with our Mazatlan reporter for the Aries Sportfishing Fleet, Ms. Kitcia Ceja, and she relayed there was virtually no damage from Hurricane Odile, either to the Marina El Cid or their sportfishing boats and hotels. While they did get some rain from the storm, it was just the fringe of Odile and the area was blessed with a lack of storm damage. Kitcia reported in with 7 offshore fishing days that resulted in 4 sailfish, 2 mako sharks and 44 dorado. The inshore super pangas, fishing 3 days, reflected 17 dorado. Considering the "no report" from the week earlier and a couple of days of non-fishing toward the end of this past week, it appeared that the fishing was still offering some daily action for the inshore and offshore boats.
Mazatlan Climate: Scattered thunderstorms and clouds through the week but mostly in the PM and nights for the rain. Temps holding at 87 daytime highs to 73 night time lows and humidity at 89%.
Sea Conditions: Calm to 11 mph and still some residual Odile swell. No boats out on Sept. 13 & 14, 2014. Sea temps stable and warm at 88-89 degrees.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were working well for the billfish and the sharks while smaller artificials and live bait was working well for the dorado.
Bait Supply: No report provided on the bait situation, albeit, there was sufficient baits for the boats wanting fresh rigging baits that are provided gratis with the charters.

At this time, we are waiting to see when the Port Captain will lift the Port Closure and allow the boats to go fishing. We do not expect...... Read More
