So far, Puerto Morelos has completely escaped the inclement weather situations of the summer months and we can only hope it continues for the next 6 weeks or so. I had mentioned that it looked like something was flowing over from the coast of Africa, but that situation vanished within just a few days and is no longer a threat in view. While the fishing this past week was a little slower than usual, the 10 offshore days was still offering some good action and varieties of fish that included 2 dorado, 3 wahoo, 3 bonito, 7 giant barracuda, 1 king mackerel, 3 Spanish mackerel, 8 snapper, 9 banana fish, 2 grouper and 3 triggerfish.
PM Climate: Monday though Thursday were good days with partly cloudy feathers and Friday through Sunday allowed for scattered thunderstorms in the PM and nights. Air temps held at 87 daytime highs and 75 nights with humidity levels at 70%.
Sea Conditions: Overall, it was a pretty good week for the sea surface wind flow that ranged from light & variable to 14 mph, all flowing in from the easterly directions.
Best Bait: The always available ballyhoo continues to be the bait of choice for the crews and the anglers. These baits can be used for rigging, cut baits, filleted sides & bellies, etc., depending on the fish being pursued. They can even skirt the baits with a variety of colors that can often prove beneficial.
