Captain Temo Verboonen reported slow fishing for our group from Kentucky, and they wound up with a catch of bonitos but couldn't get a billfish to bite. As the week progressed and following a few days of rain, a couple day window opened up with good weather and a couple of boats getting out to some very improved fishing conditions. A report from the 3 boats reflected 3 sailfish landed, multiple sailfish strikes for another boat and a double marlin jig strike with one that got away rapidly and one that kept one angler busy for 2.5 hours before the line separated and the fish got away, (we call that an early release). Overall, it seemed to be the luck of the fishing day draw when the fish had decided to bite for the anglers.
IZ Climate: It appears that we are reaching the end of the rainy season, although we are slated to receive rain this evening and over the weekend. Air temps remained good at 73 nights to 89 daytime highs and an 83% humidity factor.
Sea Conditions: Ranged from rough to calm and depended on the day of the week. We had a single port closure day and another day that was not so fishable and included rainy conditions. However, overall, the weather/sea conditions are improving. Temps remain at 86-87 degrees over the entire area. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the southerly directions to 11-12 mph.
Best Fishing Area: The actual fish bite was found on the return from offshore waters where the better fishing had been just a few days before.
Best Lure/Bait: The marlin were hooked up on artificials on the troll but the sailfish and dorado were taken on the rigged baits.
Bait Supply: Remains very good with plenty of fresh baits for rigging and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
