The off & on rain at Puerto Morelos didn't help the weather, but didn't affect fishing

It was another week of off and on rainy periods but it didn't seem to bother the fishing results, at all. The catch reports remained excellent and reflected some 16 different species for the angler efforts, totaling 31 days fished. The wide spectrum, mixed bag catches, reflected 1 blue marlin, 4 white marlin, 12 sailfish, 8 dorado, 2 wahoo, 4 blackfin tuna, 38 bonito, 7 giant barracuda, 5 Spanish mackerel, 3 king mackerel, 4 amberjack, 6 grouper, 5 snappers, 5 soapfish, 9 banana fish and 9 triggerfish. According to our reporter for Puerto Morelos, Ms. Nayade Gamboa, the summer rains have had no effect on the area's fishing results and if anything, the bite has improved during this past week, especially for the 6-8-hour charter trips.

PM Climate: Mostly cloudy days with some heavy rains during the early week and some thunder showers as the week progressed, all with easterly flowing surface breezes in the 5-15 mph ranges. Air temps ranged from 78 nights t0 91 daytime highs and the humidity levels have increased with the rainy conditions.

Sea Conditions: Temps are very stable and warm at 82-83 degrees throughout the entire area with some afternoon wind chop, (popcorn) that seems to keep the billfish active.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the time, the boats in this area fish within a dozen miles or so from the Marina El Cid and depend on the time limitations of the charter fishing day. The blue water begins with a very short distance of the entrance to the Marina El Cid and they typically start fishing within a few minutes outside the entrance.

Best Bait/Lure: The continuous preference for this area by the anglers and the crews is for the freshly caught ballyhoo that can be rapidly rigged or used as is for all of the fish varieties in the area.
