Well, it was really good fishing and catching until this morning and then, the weather took over for the rest of the week and lots of rain came down, (compliments of Tropical Storm Manuel) and following several inches of rain, probably more, everyone will be waiting for the place to dry out and get polished up for the next time. Sure seems like the anglers were well aware of the incoming weather as the charters had fallen off abruptly following the first port closure. High boat for the week was the "Tuna Time", skippered by Captain Roberto Marquez, reporting in with a total of 6 stripers released and two sailfish released for a total of 3 days fished. Bob Gaggero and his two sons, Giovanni and Chris, all from Carpinteria, CA, landed a total of 5 stripers for two fishing days, three of which were released from the Tuna Time. Tom Reynolds party, in from New Zealand, landed and released 3 stripers and 2 sailfish for their 2 fishing days. The total combined fish counts for the 16 days fished reflected 12 stripers released, 4 sailfish released, 2 skipjack and 22 dorado.
Cabo Climate: Off and on rain, light to heavy, from Wednesday thru Friday, with 2-3 inches for Wednesday. Heavy winds to 30 mph accompanied the rains and caused port closures for the boats. Air temps ranged from 74 nights to 89 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Rough and windy on Tuesday thru Friday, with winds to 25 mph. Sea temps remained good at 84 on the Pacific side from Golden Gate to Cabo Falso, rising to 86 from Cabo to Chileno and at 87 from Gorda Banks and above on the Sea of Cortez side. It's likely that the fishing will be off a little through the weekend just from residual conditions.
Best Fishing Area: Chileno, Cabo Falso and the Pozo de Coto area were the hot spots.
Best Lure/Bait: Lures were getting bit OK, but the live bait was catching the billfish best.
Live Bait Supply: Good bait supply for caballitos at the $3.00 per bait rate.
